After pains while feeding

Something I did not know about until after I had my 2nd baby was the afterpains you have in your stomach when you breastfeed or pump. The first time I had it in the hospital after giving birth I thought something was wrong but I quickly learned what it was and that it was my uterus contracting and trying to shrink and that it has to work harder to shrink after multiple babies (I didn’t have this with my first) I had it again with my 3rd baby and it would bring me to tears every time I tried to feed her it only lasted a few days thankfully but using a heating pad helped but I wish I would have bought a postpartum belly band to use when I was feeding/pumping it would have helped so much! Did any of moms on here with more that one baby experience this?

I had it with my second pretty bad. It felt like a bad period. I’ll definitely get this if we are blessed with a third.

I’m a first timer but I did have it bad, would always have some larger bleedings with it as well. I found really helpful to empty my bladder just before feeding, heating pads and taking the painkiller my OB prescribed. Could still feel some pain though, for some I think it’s just one of those things we have to endure. Luckily it doesn’t last for that long :face_exhaling:

100%! The afterpains with subsequent babies are on a whole different level, especially while nursing or pumping. Heat pads and belly bands are such great recommendations for surviving those first few days. So glad you’re on the other side of it now! Hugs

I experienced that too! It was so bizarre to me that I was having these pains. Little did I know, my uterus was shrinking back to its normal size. I swear it took forever for it to finally get back to normal. I wish I had tried the Momcozy belly binder. The one from the hospital sucked
