Did you know stress can hurt your milk supply faster than missing one pumping session? ![]()

Everyone panics over missing one pump (trust me, I’ve been there
), but you know what can really mess with your output? Stress.
When you’re stressed, your body releases cortisol and adrenaline, which can make it harder for your milk to let down. That doesn’t mean your milk disappeared it means it’s having a harder time coming out.
How letdown works:
When your baby cries, you look at their picture, smell them, or start pumping, your brain releases oxytocin. Oxytocin tells the tiny muscles around your milk glands to squeeze, pushing milk through the ducts. That’s your letdown reflex!
But when you’re overwhelmed, anxious, or constantly checking the ounces in your bottles, stress hormones can temporarily interfere with oxytocin, making your letdown slower or weaker. You may pump less even though your breasts still have milk.
Before you panic:
• Take a few deep breaths.
• Drink some water.
• Look at pictures or videos of your baby.
• Massage your breasts before and during pumping.
• Listen to calming music or watch something that makes you smile.
• Remember: one low-output session does not mean your supply is gone.
Consistency builds supply. Stress steals your peace. Give yourself grace, mama. Your body is doing something incredible. ![]()
