Be open to nipple shields if needed! I had a hard time getting my tiny baby to latch because apparently my nipples are short (never knew this could be a thing, you learn a lot after having a baby!) but it was suggested to me by a lactation consultant at the hospital to try nipple shields. I had never heard of them but she helped me learn how to use them and baby was latching after just a couple attempts! Don’t feel like your breastfeeding journey is any less if you have to use a few extra tools in order to get baby to start latching. Now, 4 months later, baby will latch with or without them!

Welcome!! Yes nipple shields are great! I learned about them in the hospital with my preemie twins. A LC gave me the Medela kind and I was using it for awhile! I ended up pumping but I feel like they did help one of my babies get better at latching for a while. I had never thought about my nips that in depth before

I had never heard or seen nipple Shields before this baby. At the hospital they put one on Andy baby almost choked on it. They had tried multiple times and she was sucking too hard she’d suck it in. Then when I went to the lactation consultant they said she has to much of a hard suction. Unfortunately I wasn’t able to use them. My inlaw however was and they helped her be able to breastfeed her baby.
Yessss!! I had no idea nipple shields were even a thing until after having a baby either You really learn SO much once you’re actually in it lol. I love that your lactation consultant showed you how to use one instead of making you feel like you were doing something wrong. If a little tool helps baby latch and takes some stress out of feeding, USE ITTT And the fact that baby now latches with or without it is amazinggg! Every mama and baby combo is different, you gotta do what works for you!
