Well, today is starting out to be a pretty hard day. We woke up my daughter at 6 a.m., which is early for her, to go to the doctor for an ultrasound because she has renal reflux, and they have to periodically check to make sure she doesn’t have any increased kidney scarring from infections. That is a battle in and of itself.
Even though an ultrasound is completely painless, she’s been traumatized by the tests and exams she’s had to undergo over the first few years of her life. Really, any type of exam, even non-invasive ones, is horrible for her.
I really wish there were something that could help us through this. I don’t know how to make it better. I understand her feeling traumatized and scared. She’s had probably four catheters, and you can feel when a catheter is put in and taken out, and it’s very uncomfortable. So I completely understand the fear. I just don’t know how to make it better because I want these visits, especially the simple ones like an ultrasound, to be better.
Oh poor baby and you! It’s not easy watching your child be absolutely mortified from all these invasive exams and they can be so scary. I tired toys with my son when we had to get a bunch of things done and that helped sometimes and other times not so much. I hope for baby girl to find some ease and if you do find something that works well please let me know too ! I’ll be keeping you all in my thoughts
I’m sorry to hear she is going through that. It must be so difficult to make her do these exams that she is afraid of. That’s a lot to have to go through as young as she is. Would something like offering her a reward like a new toy or something help her get through it?
Oh man ! Yeah when we were in the hospital and he got a catheter there was no consoling him besides breastfeeding:( I hope things get better for you and especially her
I’m sorry you guys are going through that. Hopefully you won’t have to do it forever. My son’s traumatized by doctors looking in his ears. We still have to go every 6 months. So I know how hard it is when they don’t want you to do something but you need to for their health. You are incredibly strong.
