Here we go again. 😳

Here we go again, if you been following with me about my gestational diabetes. Today I had my follow up anatomy scan. At 20w baby left kidney was .5 smaller than what it was suppose to be, so today everything was fine and he’s back on track. BUT because of the gestational diabetes and me being on insulin, I just found out I will have another follow up at 37w to check and see how baby is doing and weight. I’m currently 32w, and today baby is 4lbs 4o, they said he is doing great and managing the diabetes well. When I go back at 37w, it will be to determine if I’ll be getting induced at either 38 or 39w. For the mommies that dealt with GD did you also get induced because of being on insulin? I had no clue I would have to get induced, now I’m scared because most likely I’ll have to get a epidural. I’m still going to try my hardest to endure the pain but I just know it’s so much worse when the contractions are being forced with induction. It’s still natural and I know it’s not the complete worst but I also seen a lot inductions a lot of times causes baby to stress and lead to csections . It just seems like every appointment it’s more and more.:melting_face: momcozyteamparents

Although I did not have GD I feel so much for you and can see this is weighing on you so much! It’s so hard I am amazed with your positive mindset and outlook!! It can be so scary and you are going handling it with grace. Being induced is said to hurt more I’m not sure and I know you don’t want an epidural but if it does happen it’s going to be okay! I had one and it wasn’t bad at all in fact it was the most relieving feeling. But you got this! You are so strong :flexed_biceps:

Thank you so much Jessica, that truly does mean a lot. It’s so much to handle at once but whatever to keep baby and I healthy at this point.

my gestational diabetes was diet controlled and I had to have extra monitoring at the end to watch my baby’s growth so don’t let that worry you they just like to be extra careful. With my last baby my doctor gave me the option at my appointment (it was on a Wednesday) to be induced that next Tuesday and cancel my regular appointment that was scheduled for Monday and just have the baby Tuesday and I said yes but then I freaked out and I called back and told him I didn’t want to because of the same reasons that you are scared about and that I would just come to my Monday appointment instead. Well I went to my appointment that Monday and the baby’s heart rate was low that it worried them and they sent me to labor and delivery to be monitored for an hour but he told me to expect to have to be induced. Her heart rate came up within the time frame they gave me and they released me at lunch time but I would had to be back that next morning at 4am to be induced. I was so scared about it being more painful and needing an emergency C-section and I will tell you it was my fastest easiest delivery that i have had and everything went smoothly and the recovery was the easiest that i had. They offered the epidural after about 2hrs of being induced and it was the best thing. It was just in Gods plan that she was coming that Tuesday. My doctor did get on to me for not just scheduling the induction because he told me I would have had to that Monday anyway if they did a membrane sweep and it didn’t work. You could ask and see if your doctor is comfortable with doing a membrane sweep and see if that helps you go into labor on your own first (it did with my first) and if it doesn’t work schedule an Induction from there if they and you are comfortable with that.

Thank you so much, I was hoping you were going to comment being that you have experienced it before. How far along were you when you got induced? So you were only diet controlled and no insulin but still had to be monitored toward the end simply because of the GD? I’m definitely going to ask about the membrane sweep, I go see the High Risk Doctor on the 6th for my first appt since being on insulin. I start my non stress test Tuesday that’s twice a week and once a week ultrasound. The supervisor for the ultrasound/anatomy scan gave me this info today, so I’m sure I’ll be hearing more and get in depth info from the new high risk Doctor.

Hi Mama,

I’ve been induced at 38 and 39 weeks for GD. I would talk to your provider and do some research on natural ways to get ready for labor. With inductions they say it can take a few days. I didn’t accept this and tried everything I could to prepare my body so when I got induced I wasn’t in labor long. Loosing up your pelvic muscles does help. You can use a yoga ball and do movements on it. There’s primrose oil that you can use. Red raspberry tea. Hand expressing for colostrum and you can bring it to the hospital in case baby needs it for sugar levels. Walking is great. There are lots of ways but please check with your doctor before trying anything to make sure it’s safe for you and when to start it.

As for labour pain with induction, I only have inductions so I don’t know what regular labor pain is. With my first I had to go in for morphine shot for pain so I could sleep. I used laughing gas at the hospital until it stopped working as much. I knew I wanted an epidural. My labors were 24 h for my first and 14 hours with my second. From the time of the induction. With my second I got my epidural right in time otherwise I wouldn’t have been able to get it. I could also move around. With my first they had to forceps as my son’s umbilical cord was wrapped around his neck. I got extra pain epidural pain meds incase I needed a c second. Thankfully we didn’t. I couldn’t feel my contractions at all. They had to tell me when to push.

I would definitely have a conversation with your doctor about pain management and what is available to you

My due date was Feb 9th and I had her on the 3rd. I got weekly ultrasounds the last month of my pregnancy because she was measuring small and I have a bicornuate uterus, had gestational diabetes (just diet controlled no insulin) and I was 34 (will be 35 Sunday) so they wanted to monitor. It is routine so don’t let it freak you out like it did me the ultrasound tech explained it to me and made me feel much better about it because I was so scared when I went in and they told me I had to be monitored closely and was high risk. The epidural wasn’t bad at all, it hurt worse getting my IV the girl did it wrong and i almost passed out on them and I couldn’t move my hand without it hurting so bad so someone else had to redo it. I did try to walk a lot and deep cleaned my house to get prepared for labor :joy:

Hello and thank you for commenting. Ok so I definitely need to order the ball from Momcozy so I can do it at home. I’m also still in Pilates. I’ve been hearing about the raspberry tea and pineapple juice. Also heard of the colostrum. I will be checking with Doctor on all those things. I know if so it’s recommended after 35w. Were you not able to feel the contractions because of the extra pain meds?

Yes I couldn’t feel them because they doubled up on the epidural pain meds. With my second I just got one dose and I could still move around. Managed to pee in a chair too

Ok so a week early, not too bad. And like age 35 right lol if so Happy Early Birthday :confetti_ball::wrapped_gift::balloon:. And yeah that’s what the head tech was telling me that’s it’s normal for high risk and GD to be monitored more to check on baby and that inductions is most likely to happen if baby is too big by 37w. Honestly I’m not scared of the epidural, I’m scared of being induced and baby getting stressed or heart rate dropping. And yeah that’s another thing I’ve heard is putting in IVs wrong especially in the hand. I’ll make sure to ask for the most professional if I can lol

Ok I see. So that’s cool with one dose of epidural you can still be able to move around. And possibly pee lol :joy:

Sending you so much love, mama. While I haven’t experienced gestational diabetes, your feelings are completely valid. It is incredibly stressful when plans keep shifting, but you are doing an amazing job for your baby. Hugs :people_hugging:

I know. It was a bit challenging being so pregnant but I’m glad I could do it.

Aww mamma, you are doing so great! You got this! I had gestational with both babes. I was also on insulin. We induced at 39’week and I did do an epidural. Then my second we did a csection at 39’weeks because I had alot tearing with my first (my babies were big babies with large heads). The ā€œcoolā€ think about gestational, you got extra eyes, extra apportionments and extra scans. - all things that gave me peace of mind

If you don’t know already, peanuts and nuts trial mixes are your best friend for snacks  and eggs too!

You or baby didn’t have any issues with being induced at all? And you’re right because I have been asking the doctor since my last two appointments, when are they going to start doing ultrasounds lol. Ouuu and thank you for that reminder, I need to get some more peanuts. And I do eat eggs every morning. I appreciate you for commenting, that helped a lot. :white_heart:

It was either that or catheter. With my first I had a catheter and wasn’t given the option to pee.

They will have monitors on you and baby and keep a close eye on yall. I know it is scary going into it not knowing what to expect I did it 3 times as was scared each time but when they hand you your baby it is the best feeling in the world and I am so excited for you and the love you are about to get to experience there is nothing like it. You are so strong and you have got this I will be praying for you.

I had GD with my first pregnancy 8 years ago and was able to control it with just a diet and one thing I always recommend is to walk, walk, and walk (as long as your doctor says it’s okay) It really helped me

Try not to stress or overthink everything that could happen. I know it’s easier said than done, but staying calm can make a big difference.

If you’re being induced, the contractions can be stronger, but the epidural really helped ease the pain for me. I tried to hold off for as long as I could, but once I got the epidural, my baby arrived just an hour later with a normal vaginal delivery.

I know the thought of getting an epidural can be scary, but every labor is different, and not everyone has the same experience. Just take it one step at a time and try to relax, mama. You’ve got this!
