How to Navigate Friendships after Baby?

I need help navigating friendships after having a baby! :frowning: I thankfully have 2 really supportive friends who are also moms in my corner, unfortunately they are no where close, they are in other states, but as of recently I’ve felt so defeated with one of my friends that’s within 30 minutes of my house. I thought we were closer than what is being shown. Long story short, she has 2 kids, her most recent is 2 weeks older than my daughter. It seems as of recently any time I share an update on my daughter, she doesn’t respond or celebrate the milestones, but sends her own. I try to always acknowlege her messages with her children, but it seems as if she avoids even addressing or acknowledging my daughter. I don’t feel very supported by her and it’s honestly causing me a lot of stress emotionally. I know having mommy friends nearby is important - maybe that’s why I keep trying to hold on, but it just doesn’t seem to be a supportive freindship any longer. I’ve mentioned it to her and she avoids the topic.. Any advice??

Aww mama, I totally get why this is bothering you  Especially when you’re putting effort into celebrating her babies and you’re not feeling that same energy back. I think sometimes after having babies friendships can change in ways we really dont expect, and it can hurt even more when that person lives close enough that you thought you’d be able to lean on each other.

Honestly, if you’ve already brought it up and she keeps avoiding the conversation, I’d stop trying so hard to force the friendship to be what you need it to be. You dont have to cut her off or make it a big thing, but maybe just take a step back and see if she meets you halfway. Having a mom friend nearby is nice, but having someone who actually makes you feel supported is sooo much more important. And your two friends who are farther away clearly show that distance doesnt always mean you’re alone :face_holding_back_tears::heart: Hopefully you can find another mama nearby who matches your energy and celebrates your little girl with you!!
