Let me introduce myself - My name is Allison and I have a 5 month old daughter, Maggie. Before I was pregnant, I taught middle school ELA. That age range was always the best for me. They got my humor, we could get into interesting topics, and I felt comfortable, but I often told people, “I don’t know how you handle little kids.” It was a huge fear of mine that when I had children, I wouldn’t know what to do. Almost like I’d be waiting until they were 11 until I could bond. But on April 2, it all changed. My Maggie girl has given me the best version of myself. This “new” me was probably there all along but now I’m in a new place of comfort. It’s funny how things completely change, but also can stay exactly the same. Meals now include a little girl on my lap reaching for the same food I ate with her in my belly. Target runs now include a little girl taking in every aisle and smiling up at me.
