Let’s talk the importance of thrush! Baby & I got thrush very badly when he was 1 & 6 months old.
The first month after having baby home and going through all the engorgment. I was honestly exhausted from always changing my bra or paddings every few hours, specially at night. I would just latch baby laying down and when he was done, I would put my boob back in my bra while it was very wet milk residue and covered in slobber continuously through the night. BIG MISTAKE. That is the perfect bacteria pool for thrush to start forming. After we got diagnosed and given medication, I started cleaning my nips with wipes and using disposable nursing pads at night, changing every 2 feedings til morning. Kept everything bed side for easier access. In the mornings, I would get a warm wet wash cloth and wipe babies gums and tongue up to 4 times a day. Kept the issue away until he turned 6 months and make the same mistake again from being exhausted going back to work and tucking my boobs back in wet. Got everything cleared up and now I stick to our routine of cleaning my nips and his mouth daily. We never got that again! Be careful with always leaving your boobs wet and change every few feedings to avoid it!
Thrush is painful white blister dots in babies mouth that can make it painful for baby to eat. The friction from them eating starts to hurt and sometimes causes the blisters to bleed if not taken care of fast. Can also turn into a diaper rash.
It can be transferred to your breast where you’ll also get blister that can bleed & it just burns while feeding baby. It’s very painful on the nip and you can feel a deep pain in your breast tissue that just aches.
