Making a schedule from the time you bring baby home

My boy is 5 months old, and if I could give new moms a tip about sleep it’s that it gets better. We are officially sleeping through the night.

When my son was born we set a sleep schedule.

12-1pm NAP

8:30 pm: in bed

8:45pm: nurse

9pm: need to be asleep

We have stuck to this religiously and my son has slept through the night since 3 months old. The sleepless nights are a lot to deal with, but it does get better and you will miss those days where it was just you and baby in the middle of the night.

Find a schedule and stick to it! You and baby will be so much better off because of it! Everyone needs rest!

That’s great that he’s sleeping through the night. Unfortunately mine hasnt ever slept through the night, and she’s almost 19 months old. She wakes up 4-8 times. The bedtime and nap time schedule has worked out really well for us though. We’ve been able to stick to it for the most part. It varies by an hour or two though. It all depends on how much sleep she got prior. Too bad she won’t sleep the same amount of time every time so I can plan better lol

i hope this gets better for you and that it isn’t behavioral insomnia. :smiling_face_with_tear: I know as a mom you kind of adjust to their sleep needs, but having a full nights rest is something everyone should have.

Thank you. I just looked up behavioral insomnia. I had never heard of that. It describes her so well! Literally the only time she falls asleep on her own is every great once in awhile in her car seat. Baby girl needs to be rocked and nursed to go to sleep at any other time. I know it’s kind of my fault because it’s just what I’ve done for her her whole life. I don’t know if it’s necessarily a bad thing. It is inconvenient though lol

Thank you for sharing! Yes being consistent helps so much! We are in a transition from 2 to 1 nap. It’s hard. One day 1 nap and the next might be 2 ugh. I’ll be happy when we are over this stage

It’s not a bad thing! The phase won’t last forever. We personally nurse to sleep. One day he won’t want to anymore so we will do it for as long as he wants. Also, there are several things you can do to help with the insomnia while they are infants especially if you are good with sticking to routine:smiling_face:

It’s nice to be able to read more about what we’re going through though. I guess there’s a name for everything nowadays. That’s my plan too; I’m letting my daughter wean herself. I figure biologically, she will stop when she doesn’t need breastmilk anymore. She’s naturally nursing less as she gets older. She’s 19 months old. She may wake a lot during the night, but she is a happy healthy girl

Do you do a morning nap too ??? We have one at about 9:30 10 am??? We wake up at about 7am

He only takes one nap a day, if at all! He has never been a napper

Way to go I’m so jealous all of my breastfed babies didn’t sleep through the night until 12m:face_holding_back_tears::face_holding_back_tears:

I’m very lucky! I see lots of moms that aren’t sleeping through the night with older babies.:smiling_face_with_tear: I’m going to be very grateful cause I thought it was normal, but it seems like it’s more normal for them to start sleeping through the night around 10-12 m
