One moment I really struggled with feeding is when my daughter was 4 months old. She had a nursing strike, and I could not figure out why! This was during a time where I pumped once in the morning and once at night to build a freezer stash. I was exclusively nursing my daughter! I was so worried that she wasn’t nursing. I decided to try giving her a bottle, and it worked! I was so relieved! So I went from pumping twice a day to every 2 hours 24/7. It was so exhausting! I kept trying to get her lo latch, and she’d nurse for a second and then pull away. After 2 weeks, she started lathing again, and I was so relieved! I’m so glad I kept trying to get her to latch. I discovered that the reason she was pulling away was because my milk flow was too strong for her. I discovered that if I pumped before feeding her, she would nurse! So if this is something that happens to you, try pumping first so your flow isn’t so strong. Another thing that helps is to lay on your back with your baby on top of you, and nurse them in that position.
Such great tips! Dealing with a fast flow can be so tough, and laid-back feeding is such a fantastic tool.

These are some great tips! I always worried about my baby doing this!
This is so great to know! I’ve been trying to get my little one to take a bottle & I finally found one she might actually love. I’ve also been the one trying to nurse her less so she doesn’t continue refusing the bottle.
But now when I nurse her, she’s been choking a little & it makes so much sense that it could be because she’s use to the slower flow nipples & my flow feels too fast for her now.

It probably is like you said, a a fast milk flow and slow flow bottle nipples. It’s so nice when you finally find a bottle that your baby will take. For us, It was the wide mouth Lansinoh bottles. They worked until they didn’t! Now she won’t take any bottle because I didn’t give one to her often enough. So make sure to give a bottle regularly once you start so they don’t refuse it later. I rarely need a babysitter, but when I do, my daughter won’t take a bottle at naptime cause she nurses to sleep, so she misses a nap. One thing that works well starting since around 6 months old, she started taking cold breastmilk from a weighted straw sippy cup.
