During my year of breast feeding some things I have found particularly helpful while nursing and punping are talking to my lactation specialist early ! She had alot of insight on how to help my baby. She told me my daughter was tongue tide ! There was alot of clicking as she nursed. Which means her latch was breaking. It was a rough cycle in the beginning. But we got her tongue tie lazered, that Definitely helped but the struggles didnt stop there.
I found that while pumping coconut oil on my nipples befor pumping helps ease the tight or pinching feeling around the nipple. Also the best thing you can do if your in doubt as your doctor or lactation specialist for help! With pumping a flange size suited to for your nipple size is also equally ad important to comfortable pumping. Or nipple butter. I hope all the pumping and nursing mama’s find the best and most comfortable thing for them ! You shouldn’t have to feel pain while pumping. Reach out. Asking other moms is also a helpful tip !
It also wont let me add a video. Not sure how do to that.
Welcome to the community! Thank you for sharing your experience, getting correct flange sizing and using a good lubricant really makes all the difference for comfort!
Yes!! I really wish more moms knew this stuff in the beginning. Getting the right flange size made such a difference for me too, because I didnt realize how much an incorrect size could cause discomfort. And coconut oil is such a good tip, I’ve used it before pumping and it really does help with that tight/pinching feeling. Breastfeeding and pumping can already be hard enough, we definitely dont need to be sitting there in pain thinking thats just how its supposed to feel
Yes !! I never knew about flang sizes with my first baby. I just thought pain was apart of pumping. Boy was i wrong. Im so glad moms are finding comfortable pumping more now. And a good nipple cream makes alot of difference to pumping for me. I hope other moms find it helpful too!
We had a lactation cafe near my OBGYNs office I went too and then my small town has a lactation lounge every other Thursday with our LC it’s just been such a great source of support I still go and I’ve been breastfeeding for 10 months now
