Still Me

As a mom of 5 and being the only parent I lost myself in being a mom. I’ve lived in survival mode for so long.

I recently had a friend stop by to say hi, and in the middle of the conversation they cut me off and asked me “do you do anything for yourself?” I was confused so I asked what they meant. They responded “Every time I see you, your doing something for your kids or talking about your kids, do you ever do anything for yourself” I responded quickly with a “yes”.

When I was asked what, my mind blanked. What do I do for myself? As soon as I wake up I get a few sips of my ice coffee before I forget about it and it goes warm, I start cleaning up to get ready for the day with my kids. Make breakfast and start the day. Then through out the day I’m cleaning, cooking, being tugged on and pulled in every direction. Even when I call quiet time and get baby down for a nap, I don’t stop there- I get to cleaning the things I couldn’t get to when the kids were up running around or my Velcro baby was attached to my hip.

When baby wakes up and quiet time is over it’s back to messes being made, a meal needing cooked, baths needing to be ran, bed time to be called.

Then finally it’s quiet in the house again. But I don’t stop there- I clean up the messes again, I take a 5-10min shower if I’m lucky that night. I get a quick meal in because in the mix of the chaos I forget to eat. I get some sleep to do it all over again the next day.

Being a mom of 5 that does it all on my own has been so rough, I wake up tired and try my best to just get through the day. I realized I don’t do anything for myself. I don’t take a break. I don’t take a moment to breathe and ground myself. My cup has ran dry for as long as I can remember.

But once I was asked that and seeing all the post about self care I took it as a sign- a 1hr massage was booked for July 11th. I am doing something for me.

This community has showed me it’s possible to still be me and still be a mom.

Shoutout to all the amazing moms on here and all Momcozy Groups. I am so grateful for each and every one of you!

Wow, that is incredibly tough. And here I am complaining with my 3 kids! You are so amazingly strong, I don’t think I could do it all on my own. Thank you so much for sharing your story. I wish I could give you a hug, but for now, I hope you enjoy that 1-hour massage on the 11th! You deserve it so much :heart_with_ribbon:

Thank you so much for this :face_holding_back_tears: was just telling my mom it’s the first time I’d be leaving my little baby to do anything and I’m so nervous since she’s a Velcro baby so really hoping to be able to relax during the massage :crossed_fingers:t3:
