Tendonitis- Wrist/Thumb Pain (Mommy’s Wrist)

I keep seeing this question come up and I know I was very lost when it happened to me but wrist tendonitis (mommy’s thumb or mommy’s wrist) is common for moms. It can start during pregnancy because of the edema and good ol hormones. And then get worse after delivery because of fluids and breastfeeding positions.

If you know what it is and start doing exercises early on, you can improve it before it gets worse! And before you get recommended down the wrong path of getting steroid injections that only mask pain and do not treat the actual issue.

Grab a resistance band and write the alphabet, do a wrist stretch and massage 2-3 times per day. See a PT or chiropractor that does shockwave therapy if needed. Shockwave is expensive and takes time but it helped me tremendously! Mine was so bad that I couldn’t lift my son out of his car seat!

I really hope this helps mom identify and label this pain so you can start treating right away before it gets worse!

I have seen a few questions about this pain and always answer what I see, but never thought to post about it to bring awareness. Sometimes the hardest part is labeling the pain so you can research and seek help if needed.
