One of the best things I did before giving birth wasn’t buying another baby item it was meal prepping.
I’ll be the first to admit that I’m not the best cook, but I truly enjoy being in the kitchen. I love meal prepping breakfast, lunch, and dinner because it helps me eat healthier throughout the week. Having meals ready means I’m less tempted to order takeout, which honestly doesn’t make me feel my best and often leaves me feeling sick.
I also love baking sweet treats for my family and making comfort foods like homemade chicken pot pie. And on weeks when I don’t have time to cook, I’ll buy freshly made homemade meals from Sam’s Club and store them in the fridge or freezer for the week. It saves so much time, makes busy days less stressful, and helps me stay on track with eating balanced meals.
After giving birth, meal prepping became one of the greatest gifts I could have given myself. Between recovering, caring for a newborn, and pumping, I didn’t have the energy to think about what to cook every day. Knowing I already had nourishing meals ready to go gave me one less thing to worry about and more time to focus on my baby and my recovery.
As moms, we spend so much time preparing for our little ones, but we often forget to prepare for ourselves. Whether you’re pregnant, postpartum, breastfeeding, or pumping, your body needs good nutrition to heal and keep up with the demands of motherhood.
My advice is simple: Don’t just prepare the nursery… prepare your meals too. They don’t have to be fancy or homemade from scratch every time. Whether you cook them yourself or not, having nutritious food ready is one of the best ways to care for yourself during one of the busiest seasons of life.
A nourished mom has more energy to heal, care for her baby, and enjoy those precious moments that go by far too quickly.
