Today I need help with my toddler. Does anyone have a two kids or more? My toddler is sweet as can be but lately she has been having a tough time where she gets very upset, very fast and no calming her. She’s pushed, smacked and pulled little brothers hair (she is almost 3 and he is 9 months). What do you do to help her balance out her emotions? I understand basic tantrums, but need help.
Oh no! I’m sorry to hear that. I only have one, but I just wanted to say I hope you are able to find a solution that works.
Thank you! It’s def one of the hard pieces of having two!
I wish I had better advice for you but I only have one 7m old!
I can ask my best friend since she has a 4m and a 4 year old and he just went through this not long ago!!! I’ll see what she says and come back
I have 3 kids my youngest is 3 months and I will tell you terrible twos had nothing on when they turned 3 unfortunately. I try to find things to keep my 3 year old busy so he will leave the baby alone. He loves playing with magnatiles and building blocks and kinetic sand (I have it in a Tupperware box with cars and Dino’s and it has to stay in the box or it will be everywhere) This is my 6 year olds last week of school so we will be having a lot of outside time when she is home for the summer and I will try to find some activities they can do to keep them busy. I try to let them help with the baby as much as I can so they don’t get jealous and feel left out and they like to entertain her and make her laugh. I am going to try to find them a water table for outside I think they would like that
Oh no! I’m sorry to hear that. I only have one, but I just wanted to say I hope you are able to find a solution that works.
Oh that would be so great, let me know if she has any tips!!! ![]()

Yes I’ll call her today!
Oh no!!! I can’t even imagine it can get worse but I believe you. I think I’ll try the kinetic sand too…we have not done that yet. We already have water everywhere with her. I like your idea. Thinking of you…it is madness with littles close together while toddlers are “independent”
Thank you momma!!
Thank you! It’s such a wild road with them.
Hey Barb. I’m sorry you’re dealing with all this. Having a new baby sibling is a huge adjustment for a toddler and tantrums are often their way of saying “I still need you too.” I’m a child psychiatrist and also will be dealing with the same once my little one comes home from the hospital. But here are a few tips that might help:
-
Stay calm during tantrums and keep boundaries simple: “I won’t let you hit, but I’m here with you.”
-
Save teaching/explaining for after they calm down.
-
Give them small moments of undivided attention every day, even 10 minutes helps a lot.
-
Include them with the baby in little ways so they feel important and connected.
-
Remember: regression, clinginess, and bigger emotions are very normal right now.
This phase is hard, and your child is adjusting the best way they know how.
My best friend said it was a 3 year old thing forsure ! And actually said similar things that’s this other person in the comment above said ! emphasized giving toddler as much attention as possible! Every little bit counts. I know it’s hard it’s just an adjustment and it will get better !!!
One thing she mentioned is to show her attention even if baby is crying as long as all of babies needs are meet! She will remember you choosing her too! (She is not a doctor) this was just some mom to mom advice and she wanted me to tell you YOU GOT THIS ![]()
Oh my goodness….wow. Thank you so much for all of your help here! I’m definitely trying these out ![]()
and congratulations to you momma!!!
Thank you so much friend!!! I truly appreciate it. ![]()

Having to or even more could be so hard with the competing responsibilities, especially hard at this young age you just have to do what you can and remember that you’re doing your best. You’re only one person.
Thank you, honestly, I need to say that this out loud.
