I really wish I understood how oversaturated the lactation consultant market was! Before I was pregnant, I had never even heard of a lactation consultant before and then they were EVERYWHERE like a weed. And when you have a completely oversaturated market, you have a lot of bad LCs. The good ones are great and I’m so glad they are out there!! But if only I understood this and I knew early on that there are bad ones and I should keep trying til I find the right fit for me! I struggled for 4 months before finding the right LC and she is fantastic! It’s night and day! If I saw her at the beginning, my journey would have been a lot easier than it was and let me tell you, it has not been easy!!
I love my son and would do anything and everything to get him his milkies that he loves so much (picture of him demanding milkies from the left or next booby ) but it’s been a hard journey and I’ve wanted to quit so many times, but will not. I was a low supplier turned just the right amounter thanks to my new LC and other things I learned on my own before I found her. I just wonder how many moms give up (rightfully so!) because they had a bad LC or just didn’t find the right one yet and that’s really sad to think about.
It took me 6 to find the right one! SIX! Now the virtual momcozy one was #5 and she gave me the hope I needed to find the local #6!!
I had no idea that there were so many! I’m so glad you were able to find the right one, but that’s crazy it took 6 months! That is so amazing you were able to get your milk supply up for your little one. It goes to show that anything is possible! You go girl!
Do you live in a city? We barely have any where I live you use to have to drive almost two hours away for us to even see one and now we have one that moved close to us thank goodness.
I’m sorry it took so many tries to find the right one! But good job for not giving up. It can be so hard to be an advocate for ourselves and our children.
Oh wow, I had no clue. My pediatrician is attached to a Breastfeeding group that have lactation consultants you meet with them and the pediatrician at the same appointment so I thought that was the normal.
Ours has a NP that worked in lactation previously so she did help a little but it’s not her full time focus and I’m not sure she stays up to date on changes
Wow!! I understand how you’re feeling, after a failed attempt with 2 LC’s I took matters into my own hands and learned every single thing about pumping and breastfeeding(at that time). Since then (5 years ago) I’ve been able to have 4 successful pumping and breastfeeding journeys. I’ve even helped friends and others on the internet just by sharing everything I’ve researched!!
That seems to be very common! It’s so unfortunate and now it’s going to get even more challenging because insurances are starting to not cover lactation services!
