One thing I wish more people talked about is that if you’re breastfeeding, you’re still in your postpartum journey. When you wean, your body goes through another major hormonal shift—one that’s often compared to the hormonal changes that happen right after giving birth. For many moms, weaning can bring mood changes, anxiety, sadness, or feeling unlike themselves all over again.
So true- I haven’t reached that point but I’m going to try to remember this. Because in the hospital they warn you about the extreme drop off with your hormones after delivery but no one really talked about after breastfeeding to me.
I didn’t even know this. I know when I weaned my first I was very sad. Just that one part of our journey was ending
Oh my goodness….yes. You don’t hear about it until it happens. And it’s awful!
Good information to know so when I get to this point.
It really isn’t talked about enough
This is so incredibly true and yet hardly anyone warns you about it. We hear so much about the postpartum shift right after birth, but the hormonal crash from weaning is a whole second wave. Thank you for raising awareness for other mamas so they don’t feel like they’re going crazy when the time comes! ![]()
Yes! With my first journey I couldn’t figure out why I felt the way I did after I weaned. I felt so sad and angry. It wasn’t until months later that I found out it was because I stopped breastfeeding
Yes! I wish it was talked about more so other moms can prepare for it rather than being taken by surprise
So true. Thank you for sharing. I’m bookmarking it to remind myself when I wean!
I just learned about that this week actually! I dread the day I have to quit breastfeeding. I’m thinking if I let my daughter wean naturally, maybe it won’t be as bad. Just a theory I’m testing out.
My friend is currently weaning and I had to explain this to her!
The best advice I can give is just be there when she needs you, check in on her and see if she needs anything! Even if it’s sitting either baby while she showers or helping her with some chores around the house or even simply getting her out the house
Yes!! I self weaned with my last, he is dairy allergy. I can say I was beyond moody, crying more often, and the mood swings were horrible but now that I know this I feel so much more prepared this time around
It would definitely make a difference knowing what to expect! Like the hormones when you first have your baby…I had no idea that the crazy mood swings were normal until I was past that stage
Postpartum doesn’t end at six months
say it louder
The postpartum rage took me by surprise!
I wish more moms knew!
This is so true. And it’s such an emotional transition. Especially if it’s been cut short or you’ve been doing it for so long. ![]()
I’m not ready to go through it again ![]()
