Hello everybody ,
Iam day 4 postpartum and my breasts are sore and heavy , do i start pumping using my air 1 pump ? I am so lost please help me ![]()
And what the exact program to use i dont know also !
If you are breastfeeding I would put baby to the breast as much as I could to establish supply and relieve you and if you are still engorged pump
Yes, what Rachel said! Otherwise you will create an oversupply and that’s difficult to maintain. With an oversupply you’re more likely to get mastitis and clogged milk ducts. I didn’t start pumping until 1 month postpartum so my supply was mostly established by then.
With pumping, I do a few minutes of stimulation mode. Then switch to stimulation and pumping together or just pumping by itself. When I’m pumping mode, increase the suction until it’s uncomfortable, and then turn it down one. A higher number doesn’t mean better milk output. You want it to be comfortable
THIS!!! this is so important right here!!! Use a Hakka or collector on the other side if it needs relief!!
and I started pumping a week after giving birth but I’m not sure if that was the right way or not hahaha
I have the same issue I’m soo full and heavy the first few weeks and the hakka or the hand held Medela is what I use ![]()

Update : my milk supply went nearly to nothing at 1 week postpartum !
i think i pumped manually too much ! So i had to buy some pills that conatin natutal ingredients to regain my milk supply and now its barely enough !!! So i really dont now what to do now ! Should i start pumping using the air 1 whats called power pumping or should i wait ?
Make sure you are drinking lots of water and add in some electrolytes that has helped me a lot! Body armors and oatmeal help as well. If you are exclusively pumping I would try to pump as often as you can and if breastfeeding put the baby to the breast as much as possible and you can pump the other side while the baby is eating (manually or with your Air 1, also pump after baby finishes eating because it is all about supply and demand.
If you are doing supplements these two have been helpful To me. I just take one in the morning and one at night so they last longer And don’t lower my blood sugar.
Be careful with supplements that have fenugreek in them they can tank your supply and make baby gassy. I don’t know if the ones that your taking do but I just wanted to let you know
If you want to start pumping I would start with a hospital grade pump! Bit to help with engorgement do you have a Hakka or anything like that!? That can help so much and you can collect the milk for later
And as Rachel said if you are directly breastfeeding I would latch as much as possible to establish supply
I second this!
Cold and hot compress can help I always preferred the cold ones it really helps a lot!!!
My dr said to wait until 6 weeks but I started sooner. Around week 2
I came back to say flange size matters so much! Make sure you have the right size because I forgot mine at home yesterday and didn’t get as much as I normally when I pump with my flange inserts!
