🫧 A serious bath time question 🫧

Has anyone ever dealt with a baby who randomly just started hating baths??? I mean to the point where they scream like they are getting tortured even though the water is 98 degrees on the dot and you only bath him for less than five minutes? Idk what happened but it’s been a huge battle and I don’t want him to feel scared of bathtime :frowning: he use to not mind it at all

I haven’t dealt with that, but I have some suggestions that might help. If you have one of those shower heads with the long hose, try taking a shower with him where both of you sit on the floor of the tub. If you have another shower you can take him in, even better. Make sure to have some toys with you. Another thing that might help is if you just get in the bath with him. Splash around and make it fun, and show him there’s nothing to be afraid of. Timing is another big thing. If it’s too close to bedtime, a bath may not be a good idea

Oh boy yeah I always do it super close to bedtime and the last one we did was right after our camping trip and he was ULTRA TIRED! okay I’ll get some toys and I’ll also sit in there with him!!

What kind of shower heard are we also talking about so I can change mine out?

Thankyou Angela seriously! It was super scary our last bath he was terrified for some reason

Oh yeah, him being tired will make bath time difficult. I was reading somewhere that as long as you do bath time within 2 hours of bedtime, it will help them sleep.

I couldn’t find the exact shower head I use, but there’s a lot of similar ones

Ohhhhhh Kay I’ll show this to my partner tonight!!

Yeah I use to do it before bed because he would go right to sleep after  but he just started hating it and I mean to a point where I have to find alternatives so this is incredibly helpful

I bet it has something to do with him being overtired then! His wake windows might be changing too, so that could be why the timing hasn’t been working out

I hope one of these things will be the solution! :crossed_fingers:t2:

I would try some bath toys and see if that helps. My older two went through that phase and when they had some fun toys to play with it helped and they didn’t want to get out. We still do the shower seat for my baby because she is 3 months old but I put a towel down on it and wet it with warm water so she won’t get cold and put her towel in the dryer for a few min to warm it up for when she gets out of the bath. She was fussing about her bath the other night so I switched to bathing her in the kitchen sink and it helped.

I read this too and it was helpful

Scale Down the Environment: Skip the large baby tub and try bathing them in the kitchen sink. The smaller, enclosed space often feels much less overwhelming to infants.Bathe When Content: Don’t time baths right after a nap when they might be cranky, or right after a feeding when they are too full. Wait for a sweet spot when they are fed, rested, and happy. Delay the Hair Wash: Washing the hair/head exposes them to cold air and water drips. Save washing their head for the very last minute, or skip the water pour by cleaning hair last with a pre-wetted cloth.

Hope it helps

Do you put toys in the bathtub that he can play with? Do you bath him in his own tub, the sink? Maybe change the atmosphere? Sing or do a lil dance, something to distract him while bathing. Maybe even soft music? Just a few suggestions, hopefully it’s just a phase and it gets better. :white_heart:

No this is actually very helpful thank you I will try all these, I think the finding the sweet spot with timing is so real I don’t think about that at all! I do have bath toys but they could get more fun I should get more

The hair washing I didn’t even think about that might be it right there I always do that first and it makes so much sense why that’s not a good idea wow idk why I didn’t think of that

Of course! These are the bath toys we are currently playing with! Beware of rubber duckies and squirt bath toys. They accumulate mold growth inside. My daughter got a throat infection a few months ago, and we think it was from chewing on one of the toys with the hole in it!
