Going back to work after maternity leave is one of the hardest things I’ve ever had to do. No matter how prepared you think you are, nothing truly prepares you for leaving your little one and walking out the door that first day.
If you’re approaching the end of your maternity leave, I want you to know that it’s okay to feel sad, anxious, guilty, or all of the above. Those feelings are completely normal because you’re leaving behind someone you love more than words can describe.
What helped me was reminding myself that my baby was loved, cared for, and safe. The transition wasn’t easy, but day by day we both adjusted. Before I knew it, we had found our new routine.
I breastfeed and now pump at work, one thing that made a huge difference was keeping a consistent pumping schedule. It can be challenging to balance meetings, work responsibilities, and pump breaks, but staying on schedule helped me maintain my milk supply and gave me peace of mind knowing I was continuing to provide for my baby.
Give yourself grace during this transition. Some days will be harder than others, and that’s okay. You’re not choosing between being a good mom and having a career, you can be both. Your baby will still light up when they see you at the end of the day, and those cuddles somehow feel even sweeter.
You’ve made it through every hard stage of motherhood so far, and you’ll make it through this one too. ![]()
