Of course being a mom is one of the biggest parts of who I am. I’m 30, married with 8 kids, and this past year alone has tested me in ways I never expected.
I was pregnant with our last baby when my son was diagnosed with epilepsy. Suddenly I was learning medications, appointments, keto, seizures, insurance, medical equipment—getting him a medical bed, wheelchair, adaptive car seat—all while dealing with the fear and unknowns that came with his diagnosis. And at the same time, I still had a husband, 6 other kids, back-to-school, coaching my daughter’s basketball team, going to tournaments , tutoring , running a household and making a new baby to prepare for. Somehow, we made it through.
But the “more” is important to me because I don’t want to lose myself in everything I do for everybody else.
More is the woman I am outside of being somebody’s mama or wife. It’s my goals, my businesses, my ideas, my dreams and the life I’m still building for myself. It’s wanting to grow, try new things, make my own money, create something meaningful and figure out exactly who I am in this next chapter.
I absolutely love being their mom. But I’m still me too.
And at 30, I’m realizing I can be a great mom and still want more for myself.
