One thing about me is that I hold myself close to my heart.
I journal. I cook. I fish. I collect. I livestream.
Like so many mothers, I’ve learned that throughout motherhood we constantly evolve. We go through seasons of remembering who we were while discovering who we’re becoming.
For the longest time, I naturally put everyone else first. It wasn’t until after having my second baby that I realized something had to change. Taking time for myself isn’t selfish… it’s necessary. If I want to be fully present, patient & the best mom & wife I can be, I have to pour into myself too.
When we leave ourselves behind while carrying the weight of everyone else, we slowly become unhappy. We feel like something is missing. We lose pieces of ourselves without even realizing it.
One thing that keeps me connected to me is collecting. It’s a hobby that brings me so much joy, & I love sharing it through my livestreams where we hang out, play games & build a little community together.
Motherhood is one of my greatest blessings, but so is remembering that I’m still a person outside of it.
Yes! I run into that not always but enough to know there are mamas out here that truly feel guilty for doing something for themselves. I want to try to normalize making us mamas a priority too. We can still love and take care of our babies without leaving ourselves behind.
That is so true! I find myself constantly taking care of everyone else, and I let even my own basic needs slide. I’ve been trying to get better about it. I’ve been trying to make time for my hobbies too. You have a very unique collection going!
Mom guilt is so common!! I feel like things would be so different if we didn’t live in modern times. With all the technology and amazing products we have to help us, we still struggle to care for ourselves and meet our basic needs. Like why is this a thing? Especially for the mamas who have to work.
My hobby was cross stitching and diamond painting. I haven’t really gotten back into either of them since having my daughter. I think it would make more sense to be crafting while watching my daughter instead of being on my phone sometimes.
Maybe what I share can be helpful in what works for you so you can start to make time for yourself.
I’m such a planner and try to stay as organized as possible my husband and I prioritize family time, couple time & individual time. For us, that means intentionally scheduling. We share a calendar on our phones that are linked so we always know when there is a doctor’s appointment, work and events. So we’re always on the same page.
My husband fishes every Wednesday, I plan monthly lunch dates with my girls and self care day, we take a family trip every other month & at the end of every month my mom or MIL watches our kids so we have date night.
It works for us but it took time, communication & adjusting as our family grew. I think sharing a calendar has been one of the biggest things that motivated us & kept us on the same page. No surprises and peace of mind.
& yes! I totally agree, due to modern times it’s so hard to parent & live a lifestyle where we can enjoy ourselves in between motherhood and figuring out our livelihood.
Those are some great ideas! I don’t know if we are ready for the date night part yet, but I know we could definitely do a day for him and a day for me to each do what we enjoy. I just love the idea of a family trip every other month. We want to travel so my daughter doesn’t become small town minded. We live in an area where most people don’t go within 50 miles of their homes. It’s mind blowing that they don’t travel the country!
Honestly, The fact that you recognize what you’re realistically capable of right now is such a big step. I truly hope & pray you both find a balance that allows each of you to have your own time while continuing to support one another. You both deserve individual time
We love taking mini trips, we want the kids to have the best memories!
& no way really?! Where are you from if you don’t mind me asking. I love to traveling.
Mini trips would be so much fun! My husband and I used to do that kind of thing all the time before my daughter was born. One of our favorite things to do is to go to one of the dams about an hour away from us to go fishing. It’s massive and there’s some cool spots to hike to for fishing
I’m living in a small town in Arkansas. I’m originally from Houston, Texas so it’s a major change!!
