For me on of the messy mom moments was not poop but vomit. My daughter woke up crying which she does some times but this was different. I went in to check on her and pick her up. I noticed that she felt wet so I turned the light on in her room. It was vomit everywhere on her and her crib. We had to put her in the bath to clean her and new sheets. She also was still getting sick while in the bath. I tried to not get sick myself.

That sounds so tough. Middle-of-the-night cleanups are hard work. You handled it well.
