Moms, I need your best stain removing secrets! 😩🧺

Now that my little one is eating all kinds of foods, I feel like I’m constantly fighting poop and food stains on her clothes! Some of these stains are SO stubborn, especially when you don’t catch them right away.

I’ve been using Shout and Tide, and they’ve definitely helped, but I really want to try some different products and find another solution that works REALLY well on those hard to remove baby stains.

So moms… what are you using?! :eyes::soap:

here is what I wrote down in my notes :yellow_heart:

For baby clothes, the best stain removal method depends on whether you’re dealing with milk, formula, spit up, poop, food, or something oily. Here are some simple, baby friendly options to try:

:baby_bottle: Milk, formula & spit up stains

Simple pre-treatment:
• 1 cup warm water
• 1 teaspoon liquid laundry detergent

Apply the mixture directly to the stain or let the clothing soak for 15–30 minutes. Gently rub the fabric together, then wash as usual.

For breast milk specifically, rinse with cold water first because hot water can cause protein-based stains to set.

:poop: Poop stains

  1. Rinse the stain under cold running water, preferably from the back of the fabric.

  2. Apply a small amount of liquid laundry detergent directly to the stain.

  3. Let it sit for 15–30 minutes.

  4. Wash according to the clothing’s care instructions.

  5. If a yellow stain remains, place the damp garment in the sunlight to help naturally lighten the stain.

:carrot: Food stains

For carrots, sweet potatoes, berries, baby food, and similar stains:

• Rinse with cold water.
• Apply liquid laundry detergent directly to the stain.
• Let it sit for 15–30 minutes.
• Wash normally.
• Repeat if necessary.

Try not to put stained clothing in the dryer until the stain is completely gone because the heat can permanently set it.

:butter: Greasy or oily stains

For baby lotion, diaper cream, breast milk fat, and oily foods:

• Apply a few drops of liquid dish soap or laundry detergent directly to the stain.
• Gently work it into the fabric.
• Let it sit for 10–15 minutes.
• Rinse thoroughly.
• Wash normally.

:sparkles: For really stubborn stains

An oxygen-based laundry stain remover can be helpful for washable baby clothes, but always check the garment’s care label first. Avoid mixing different cleaning products together.

My favorite overall baby stain routine:

Cold-water rinse → liquid detergent directly on the stain → 15–30 minute soak → wash → air-dry and check → repeat if needed.

:sun_with_face: Bonus tip for stubborn yellow stains

Sunlight can be surprisingly effective on baby stains, especially poop and spit-up stains. After washing, leave the damp clothing in direct sunlight for a few hours. The natural UV light can help fade the remaining discoloration. Just be mindful with darker or brightly colored clothing, since prolonged sun exposure can cause fading.

:soap: Simple DIY stain paste

For a stubborn stain, you can make a simple paste using:

• 1 tablespoon baking soda
• Enough water to create a paste

Apply it to the stain, gently rub it in, and let it sit for about 15–30 minutes. Rinse well and wash normally.

Always spot test homemade mixtures on an inconspicuous area first, especially with colored or delicate fabrics.

One thing I’ve started doing during meals that will be messy is to take off my daughter’s clothes before putting her in the high chair. Another thing that is good prevention is have your baby in a shirt and diaper while at home. Then you don’t get the poop stain when there’s a blowout

I got this to help with stains on my baby’s clothes while she is eating and it helps because I can just wipe it when she is done

Dawn dish soap! Rinse the stained area in hot water, lather and dawn on and scrub (rubbing fabric on fabric send to be most effective), and keep scrubbing as you wash out the suds. Then when you wash later use a stain remover. I use spray and wash. Most of the time though the darn gets the strain pretty well!

This is actually a great idea. My daughter just tends to eat very messy like me, but I might try that option of no shirt because she always takes her nightly bath anyways. :joy:

This is so cool I’m definitely gonna order this :smiling_face_with_sunglasses:

I never thought about using Dawn dish soap, but I’m definitely gonna try that too because I tried the stain removing sprays and the stain is still there laughing at me :sob::joy:
