Oh goodness have I learned so much from motherhood!
I’ve found a new pocket of patience… most days.
I’ve learned a ton about medical and educational advocacy.
I’ve learned a lot, and still have so much to learn, about disabilities and the disability community.
I’ve learned the importance of prioritizing myself, and especially not falling behind on basic needs because if I do, that’s always when emergencies happen. lol.
I’d love to get some sort of formal medical training of my own eventually to be able to better understand my son and take care of him in emergency situations.
This is a little depressing— but probably the moment that most changed me as a mom was the first time my son had a seizure when he was a baby.
Here’s a helpful breakdown of what to do if you ever see someone having a seizure because I love sharing this information with people just in case!
What an amazing, dedicated advocate you are for your son! That first seizure experience sounds so scary, but turning that moment into education and awareness for others is incredible. Thank you for sharing this vital information with us!
Thank you for sharing this. My husband had seizure once. When I met him, he told me he had a couple times when he is a teenager, but it’s has been a long time since last one. That’s why when he suddenly fell down, I immediately realized it is seizure, so I was able to handle it. So another advice is that maybe we shall tell our partner or best friends this medical history so that they know what they should do if this thing happens.
Thanks for sharing! I have never know anyone that has seizures so now I can be a little bit more prepared! great job to you momma, keep on rocking it !
This is such good information!! I myself have myoclonic and absense seizures so I know how scary those are I could never imagine if I or anyone were to have a grand mal seizure…… I’m not sure which disabilities your struggling with with your little one, but I know when I had my first at 24 weeks I LEARNED SO MUCH medically I never could’ve imagined.. I’ve heard people say those parents of Nicu babies could be drs after walking out of there and man we learned a lot…. My daughter had a hole in her heart (pda), had rop, and still is struggling with mild Bronchial pulmonary dysplasia (bpd) and the struggles of babies with disabilities is so so so hard… I brought my 1st baby, the one who made me a mom, home on oxygen…. I hardly knew how to change a diaper I was only 22 years old and never had been around kids much so imagine the fear when your 1lb baby comes home at just 5lbs on oxygen?! TERRIFYING!!! I think it’s smart for all parents to have a bit of medical knowledge because you just never know. … I hope it gets easier for you to navigate, but I know it’s never that simple when it’s your own baby having the struggles hang in there mama
