A mix of excitement, anticipation, and a little anxiety fills my heart as we prepare to welcome our second little love into our family.
As first-time parents, we poured every ounce of our time, attention, and love into our firstborn. Now, we’re stepping into a brand new season — learning how to care for a newborn while ensuring our three-year-old still feels deeply loved, seen, and secure.
We’ve been asking ourselves: How do we divide our time between two little ones? How do we meet the endless needs of a newborn while making sure our big sister never feels left behind?
Our hope is to involve her in every step of this journey — from helping to prepare for baby’s arrival, to passing diapers, choosing baby’s clothes, singing lullabies, and celebrating her new role as the best big sister. We pray that she will not see the baby as someone who takes our love away, but as another person she gets to share our overflowing love with.
We know there will be difficult days, moments of guilt, tears, and learning curves. But we also know that God’s grace will be sufficient for us in this new chapter, just as it has been through every season of parenthood.
Here’s to sleepless nights, tiny newborn cuddles, toddler giggles, and a home that will soon be a little noisier, a little messier, but so much fuller of love.
That’s the way my best friend has been doing it!! Older brother has been involved in everything he is apart of this new life and he has seen it as needed for the help and now he’s so happy about baby
He always says that my baby hahahayou are going to do so great!! I’m so excited for you !! May you have the safest and healthiest delivery possible with a speedy recovery!!!
Oh, mama! That mix of excitement and anxiety is so normal, but your heart won’t divide it multiplies!! Your instincts are spot-on. Involve your three-year-old, protect 10 minutes of daily one on one time for her, and lean into that grace. The mess will be bigger, but the joy is about to double. You’ve got this! Hugs!
How exciting for yall congratulations! Watching your baby become a big sister will be the most amazing thing And will melt your heart! She will look so big when you come home from the hospital. One thing that we did that helped the transition was when our kids came to the hospital to meet the baby we gave them a little gift from the baby. When my first born became a big sister I got her a baby doll to “take care of” while I took care of her baby brother and it helped so much because it entertained her while I could meet the baby’s needs and she didn’t feel left out. I try to let them help as much as I can with their baby sister and it helps. Yall will get into a routine and it will be a smooth transition, you’ve got this momma!
I feel you. When I had my second, I felt so bad for my first. I wanted to go home right away and be with him too. I felt torn. Honestly my oldest took to being a big brother amazing. He is wonderful with my second. Baby did give his big brother a present to help with jealousy. He gave it to him when they first met. Now my oldest wants 10 more babies.
Overall you do have the moments they both want you but watching them grow together is amazing.
It’s been 19 years since I’ve had my first child. It was hard to get him involved due to his age but now that his baby brother is here he’s shown so much support. He’s protective, loving and helpful. I couldn’t have asked for anything more.
