Pumping

I EBF and have only been pumping once a day(if that) and get about 6 oz first thing after a feed in the morning. I am wanting to start pumping more to build a freezer stock. I have about 180 oz in the freezer currently but want to store enough to feed atleast a month. What is a good way to pump and EBF. (We don’t do bottle at all)

I always nurse first then pump and how many months pp are you if you don’t mind me asking ? I’m 7 m and I only do it once or twice a day. The Momcozy app also has a lactation plan you can try to follow that has this option for EBF moms

I am 9 weeks PP. I just downloaded this so I will check that out! Thank you!

So I have been exclusively breastfeeding for 16 months now. I started out pumping too often to build a freezer stash like you are talking about. I didn’t pump at the same times every day or the same number of times every day and ended up getting painful clogged milk ducts or mastitis. You end up with an oversupply that is a lot of work to maintain. I have learned through trial and error that the best way to do it is to pump only once a day and gradually build your freezer stash. I know it takes longer, but you won’t have to worry about everything I just mentioned. Once my freezer stash was built up, I just keep a 3 days worth of bottles in the fridge and rotate them to use the oldest first for baby oatmeal, breastmilk popsicles, and to cook baby food with. This is what worked well for me EBF and pumping for a freezer stash and baby food only

Yeah I want to avoid any complications. I have been pumping the past 2 days after each feed and seems fine but not sure if overtime it will cause me to produce more. I’m a SAHM so pumping at the same time every day wouldn’t be a problem for me but I’d prefer not tome. I may stick to pumping early morning and add in a night pump. Thank you!

You’re welcome! It can be so tricky to figure things out in the beginning. I had to learn by trial and error because I couldn’t find any info about doing it like that online. If you are pumping after each feed, it will cause you to overproduce. Some people are okay with that and donate the extra milk they produce to a local hospital if you decide to go that route
