As a second-time mom, I’ve realized there are so many things I misunderstood about breastfeeding and pumping with my first baby. One of the biggest things I’ve learned this time around is to look for that second letdown!
For anyone who doesn’t know what that means: when you’re pumping, use the stimulation/letdown mode—the little “bacon” button on the Spectra or the heart button on Momcozy wearables.
What works for me is pumping until I notice I’m no longer getting much milk. Then I turn the pump off for about 10 minutes, start pumping again in stimulation mode, and wait for another letdown. I had no idea about this with my first, and it’s been such a helpful trick this time around!
I attached a picture I got from this group that I use on my W1 and it really helped.
Every mom and pumping journey is different, but if you’re pumping, it may be worth trying to see if you can trigger that second letdown.
Here’s the complete scene of my custom Long Pull Emptying rhythm! on that screenshot you posted. I always pause for about 10 minutes after the first 20 minutes, then pump for another 10 minutes.
I created this rhythm to mimic the way my BabyBuddha pump works, and my body responds really well to it. It has been giving me great output, so I wanted to share it in case it helps another pumping mama, too!
Of course, every body responds differently, so take what works for you and adjust as needed.
Yes, I usually wait for my second let down! My milk is usually thicker and more rich in appearance. I also feel emptied out by the end of this second let down. I do end up pumping past 30 minutes sometimes to trigger a second let down!
The second let down is always epic for me I’ll be nervous I’m only getting an ounce then BOOM second let down hits and I got some pretty full eggs hahahah
