Educating Babies

What do you guys like to teach your babies and what age are they? Here is what I have been working on with my 16 month old:

  • Shape sorter - Start off with just one shape. Put another shape out once the prior one is mastered. I’ve added a new shape every couple weeks.
  • Stacking rings - First we do the large plastic one. Then we do the small wooden one. I will say the color as she puts each one on and sometimes she will say it back
  • Chunky animal puzzle - Focus on two animals each week.
  • Piano: no real structure. I just tell her to play a song. Once she finishes playing, she and I clap.
  • Stuffed animal grab: I will call out for each stuffed animal by name, and she will find that stuffed animal and bring it to me. She has about 20 stuffed animals right now.
  • Read a book. I let her turn the pages.
  • Roll a ball back and forth.

These are all great ideas! My older 2 loved the Melissa and Doug puzzles. They have a Walmart brand that is cheaper and they liked those too. They also love magnatiles and playing with kinetic sand but I keep it in a large bin for them to play in so it doesn’t make a mess. They also liked playing with the little craft Pom poms and sorting them by colors in cups (she can use tongs to do it to practice fine motor Skills) they have a lot of other great ideas on Pinterest too.

Melissa and Doug have a lot of neat toys for baby learning! A few of ours are that brand. I’ll have to check out the magnatiles. I think that would be age appropriate for my daughter. I’ll have to try the kinetic sand and Pom poms when she gets a little older. I’m always trying to come up with new ideas, and I forgot all about Pinterest!
