I remember when it took an hour and a half to feed because baby kept falling asleep. And wasn’t getting a good latch. I gave up and went to exclusively pumping. So many moms around me didn’t seem to have any issues. Or they went to bottle and that worked for them. I didn’t think I’d care about nursing, but something nagged at me. I’m also a little neurotic and wanted to have the option to breastfeed in case we got stuck somewhere and didn’t have pumped milk or formula on hand. I met a mama who had a similar experience and she encouraged me to see a lactation consultant. The one I found is amazing. Kind and no-nonsense. Gave me tools and confidence I needed to succeed to do it. I cried again but tears of joy when my baby fed and unlatched because she was full and happy. Now onto a new challenge of trying to figure out how to increase supply so I can freeze! And I didn’t hesitate - reached out to the lactation consultant and I have a plan now! But will stay flexible bc things can change!
