1.Should hand expression hurt?
No. Pain usually means your fingers are too close to the nipple or you’re squeezing too hard.
2.What if I’m not getting much milk?
Low output at first is normal. Warmth, massage, and practice can help your body respond.
3.When should I seek help?
If you notice fever, chills, red streaks, or a painful lump, it’s important to reach out to a healthcare professional.
If you are using hand expression before birth, stop and call your provider if you have any contractions, cramping, pelvic pressure or bleeding.
4.Can I overdo it?
Gentle expression is safe, but avoid squeezing too hard or expressing for long periods if it causes discomfort.
