Pumping while pregnant

What I wish I knew is that you could start pumping before giving birth. I found out just recently with a instagram video that I saw of a mom getting ready to pump a week or two before giving birth. I am thankful that I didn’t really struggle to produce milk but I did notice that in the thrid day I wasn’t getting my baby full so hospital recommended formula to fill her up. After a few day I was producing more and more milk!

Yes I would always check with your doctor tho. I pumped with both my kids before they were born. It helped with my confidence in producing milk to feed my baby. I highly recommend it.

Thanks for sharing your experience! It’s so true that those first few days waiting for milk to come in can be stressful. And yes to Chantels suggestion to add a quick heads-up, pumping before birth can sometimes induce labor, so anyone thinking of trying this should definitely clear it with their doctor first. Hand expressing colostrum late in the third trimester is often the safer route! :heart_hands:

Yes it’s important to check with your OB though because it can cause early labor if you do it to early

Be careful though because my doctor told me pumping can cause early labor

Yes this always get the okay before doing so! Pumping too early into pregnancy can induce early labor or so I heard I’m not a medical professional but I know you absolutely can start expressing colostrum at a certain time and I wish I had done that as well !! I was just so lost on it but speaking to an OBGYN will help a lot

I did not know about this ! I thought it wasn’t okay . I learn something new everyday here :growing_heart:

With my first I got the okay at 36 weeks. With my second 37 weeks. It all depends on how your pregnancy is going. I highly recommend it. It definitely helps with your confidence to breastfeeding and having the supply. Talking with your doctor to see when it’s okay to collect is key. You can also bring the Colostrum to the hospital incase baby needs more milk
