For Labor
Some hospitals give:
- Birthing balls
- Showers and support bars
- Mobile monitors (depending on availability)
You should bring:
- A front‑opening gown or robe
- Warm socks
- Non‑slip sandals
- Hair ties
- Lip balm
- Long phone‑charging cable
- Snacks and drinks for your support person
- Reusable water bottles
Postpartum
Many hospitals do provide:
- Large maternity pads
- Cold packs
- Peri bottle
- Baby blankets and hat while you’re admitted
- Formula and bottles if needed
- Some diapers (but bring extra just in case)
The hospital does NOT provide:
- Disposable underwear
- Clothing for the baby
- Toiletries for you
- Clothing for you
You should bring:
- 2–3 comfortable nightgowns or pajamas
- Large, comfortable underwear
- Nursing bra
- Nipple cream (lanolin)
- Extra maternity pads if you prefer a specific brand

For the Baby

- Hoodie or light blanket (nights can be cold)
- Snacks and drinks
- Charger
- Basic toiletries
For Going Home
- Loose, comfortable outfit for you (think 6‑month‑pregnant size)
- Weather‑appropriate outfit for the baby
- Warm car‑seat cover if it’s cold outside
Tips
- Rooms can be private, semi‑private, or shared depending on your insurance.
- The hospital is large, so bring one rolling suitcase to move easily.
- Staff is very used to multicultural families; you can request help in Spanish if needed.
- Lactation consultants are available if you plan to breastfeed.
- If it’s winter, the exit area is windy and cold—bring extra layers for the baby.
