Unwanted advice

One thing I wish I knew as a first time mom was to not let the opinions and unwanted advice from people bother me. When I was postpartum with my 1st baby and trying to figure out how to navigate being a new mom and how to breastfeed I had people who were not so kind to me and tried to push there opinions on me and not follow the rules that I set. I wish I would have told them that a lot had changed since they had a baby along time ago and I wish I would have stood up for myself sooner because I knew my baby more than anyone and knew her needs. I wish I knew that I didn’t have to accept that kind of behavior and that it was ok to voice how it made me feel.

That is very true, I had the same issue. I had many moms tell me what to do and there were times where I did not agree with them. I had to learn how to respectfully voice what I wanted because we know what’s best for our babies.:blush:

Absolutely! It was family that I was dealing with so it took me longer than it should have to voice my opinions back. Im not great with confrontation

Oh yes this is a great one. And it’s always the ones closest to you with the most opinions. Honestly everyone but goodness. It can be very overwhelming. You said it correctly, many don’t realize a lot has changed since they had babies, sometimes people should just leave their opinions to themselves. Idk though I’m very outspoken so I don’t be caring what others say and tell them what I’m going to do anyways and that it’s my baby not theirs.

THIS ONE!!

I was 16 with my first so you could imagine all the “well I would do it this way” “when I had my first baby I..” it became so overwhelming and cause a lot of issues between me and family. I was a young mom trying to find my way but it seemed like to everyone around me any way I did something was the wrong way.

I get some mean it in the most innocent way but it can become a bit overwhelming!

yes! I think people who are unkind to postpartum mommas are just plain miserable people. That should be a time where they lift your up and support you, not try to teaR you down and make you feel Less than.

I have gotten that way! It was tough to whenever it was happening because it was my husbands family and I didn’t want to Cause problems for him and their relationship at the time. They wouldn’t act that way with him around and when they finally did he took care of it.

Some Do Mean it in the best way and it does get overwhelming when everyone is pushing their opinions on you. I’m sorry that you had to go through that as well at such a young age.

This is so true one of the most challenging pieces of advice I would give them people would be don’t worry you can give your baby formula. Don’t worry you can quit breast-feeding. Your mental health is more important than Breastfeeding…. I knew everybody was in their best intentions, but nobody knew that their advice was actually hurting me. It was making me feel like everybody wanted me to quit and basically only my husband wanted me to succeed. It was odd.

Oh ok I’m so glad he took care of it because that’s not fun especially if it’s dad side it can be a lil tricky, but he did the right thing and so did you. :clap:t5:
