I had my first child 10 years ago and although we started trying a few years after that I wish I knew how common infertility was and how it could impact those that had successfully births before. I spent 4 years actively trying, feeling like a failure, feeling that my body wasn’t going to be able to do it. Going through month after month of testing with strips, rounds of procedures, blood draws and even a myomectomy was draining emotionally. No one I knew ever voiced their issues getting pregnant and instead everyone seemed to have an easy time getting and staying pregnant. It took 3 rounds of IUI for us to conceive our wonderful baby boy. He came early at 36w6 days via c section which was complicated due to so much scar tissue and fibroids that it took 3 hours. Everything I thought I knew from my previous emergency c section went out the window this time. Our baby boy spent 10 days in the NICU which were the hardest 10 days of my life but worth it in the end. I wish I knew it was going to be ok because in those moments it felt never ending and I couldn’t see the finish line. Everything we went through got us to where we are today with our precious 3 month old but I wish I knew earlier how long and draining the journey would have been and I wish I had a better support system outside of my daughter and husband.
Hi Mama, my heart goes out to you. I can only imagine your struggles. I’m glad you were able to have your bundle of joy. I’m sorry it took so long for you. Infertility is hard and challenging. Thank you for sharing your story
Thank you so much
I really appreciate it. It has been a journey for sure and staring at our 3 month old made every setback worth it. I didn’t think it would ever happen for us again so at the time it felt hopeless and I just wish I could go back in time and tell myself the story has an amazing ending.
Oh Courtney, what a beautifully honest and raw post. You went through so much trauma to bring your baby boy into the world, four years of trying, surgery, a scary C-section, and the NICU. Thank you for sharing this wisdom, secondary infertility needs to be talked about so much more. Holding space for you and celebrating your precious 3 month old with you. And ofcourse welcome to the community mama ![]()
Thank you so much for the kind words
I truly never understood what some mommas had to go through until we went through it. It took me 2-3 years into our journey to even share our infertility diagnosis with family and friends as I thought it meant something was wrong with me or I caused it. I discovered through sharing more people I knew that had the same struggles and they felt more open to talk about it since I brought it up. It’s funny as I was watching my little one fall asleep tonight I was thinking back on the c section/nicu days and just giving thanks to god/the universe that I am on this side of everything now.
I am so glad that you were blessed with your baby boy! It takes alot of strength and courage to go through what you went through. I know it took anlot for you to share your story with other moms so they might not feel alone! Thank you for doing that.
Welcome to the community!
Thank you for trusting us with your story. Sharing something so personal I know can be a lot. Your family is incredibly strong & I hope you’re all just thriving!! especially your sweet baby boy. Wishing you continued strength and so many brighter days ahead. ![]()
Thank you so much! Infertility made me feel so alone and isolated sometimes as none of our family or friends understood it and I kept hearing “it will happen when it’s supposed to” “at least you have one” “just relax and it will happen” when it came to secondary infertility and I just wanted to scream. The NICU stay and bringing our boy home really has shown me who in my family and friends care as so many of them only commented on our Facebook posts but haven’t reached out to meet him in the 3 months he’s been home.
If is always so crazy to me the way people act towards you and change when you have a baby. You definitely find out who your friends are.
What a long road you’ve had. It makes the end results that much sweeter. Wishing you so much happiness in your future ![]()

Thank you so much and yes I completely agree! Sometimes I just stare at him while he’s sleeping and think how lucky I am ![]()
For sure! With our first 10 years ago everyone was so much more involved and now days with our second even after all of the struggles we went through to get him here no one in my family or friends circle has reached out to meet him. Needless to say I have cut ties with all of them at this point lol
Very relatable!!! We are SO lucky to be mothers
