What I Wish I Knew

How to properly heal after having my first traumatic C-section! I wish I could have truly prepared myself mentally and physically! Not knowing anything of the pain, dangers, and physical toll it actually has! I could not handle taking the strong pain medication and was constantly throwing up, so I stopped after 5 days. Trying to get off the bed and sitting on the toilet was absolutely brutal. I would cry and dread everytime I had to go. Having to sleep sitting up for 2 weeks was so exhausting, I wish I would have gotten a proper back pillow. Proper belly band for the right support. I ripped my incision open 1 week after being home from trying to lift the car seat with my baby in it. That was an awful feeling and pain I had to go through.

Then I went through major depression when I found out I couldn’t pick up more then 30 lbs the first 6 months of healing so I had to quit my work position I worked so hard for! I couldn’t lift weights when working out was my therapy. I felt like I lost it all but my baby was here and breathing so I had to change my way of thinking and started a positive affirmation goal sheet. Told myself loving words, things Im grateful for, make new working goals and new gym goals. Found what works for me and started a new job position! I’m thriving in that and my physical/mental health now. Being a mom is so much more than taking care of our children, we also have to take care of ourselves! Learning a new love only mommas can explain! New strength only we can figure out when we’re put up against a major challenge!

This is raw, beautiful, and so incredibly inspiring! You went through so much physical and emotional trauma, but the way you shifted your mindset, rebuilt your goals, and prioritized your own healing is amazing. Thank you for reminding us that mama’s health matters too! :flexed_biceps::heart_hands:
