Wish I knew

One thing I seriously wish I knew before having a baby is how to look after myself in this new role and throughout postpartum. People talked about hormonal shifts, but no one mentioned what it really looked like (mood swings, night sweats, crying over nothing…). I would have loved some tips to help me navigate it all and feel okay.

There’s a ton of focus on pregnancy and baby care, but it’s just as vital that mom takes care of herself too.

So to all the new mamas out there, don’t forget that you are not alone in this. Try to make some time for yourself. You don’t have to be glued to your baby 24/7. Try to take a shower or a bath every day, just to relax a little bit.

This is great advice. Just a little time for yourself makes a huge difference!

So important. Postpartum is such a wild ride, and mom-care gets overlooked way too easily. A daily shower does wonders. Thank you for normalizing the night sweats and crying. You are so not alone! Hugs mama

Yes. I always put myself last. So I get this a lot

Amazing thank you for sharing. My midwife made sure my husband knew about the day 4 postpartum blues. It’s when your hormones shift and can really effect us. Making sure to have time to decompress is huge

And maybe it’s just me but my personal hygiene and chores do not count as me time! Hygiene might as well be a chore lol

I completely understand! For me, it was a way of saying, ‘This is my moment of the day, don’t disturb me’ :joy:. But it can be anything else that helps you relax or feel better (having a coffee, reading a book, going for a walk outside, watching TV, doing your hobbies…)

When you’re in the trenches of post partum and a fresh new mom, eating, showering, sleeping, and any second away from baby is so hard, and necessary. Having a support system is really grounding. They’re a good reminder of the pre baby before time. If it weren’t for friends and family, I’d be a hermit.

I definitely wish there was more talk about the moms after birth too and not just during pregnancy
