I’m at pediatric nurse, first time mom, and my girl is now almost four months old. I thought before she was born I had a good birth plan figured out and for the most part had a pretty good idea of what I was getting into. HA! Boy, was I in for a wake up call. Not a single thing about labor and deliver went according to my “plan”, but that’s okay. After a very healthy, uneventful pregnancy, at 36 weeks I ended up with COVID, hypertension, preeclampsia and an induction at 37 weeks. After 78 hours of labor, she finally made her entrance happy and healthy. I wish someone would’ve told me to forget the plan. I wish someone would’ve told me yes, labor and delivery is hard, but absolutely nothing compares to when they lay your baby on your chest. The pain and suffering immediately forgotten and replaced by so much love- it’s an indescribable feeling and I would do it all over 10 times again for my sweet baby. Forget your plan and trust God’s!

Yup we can try our very best to make a plan and have an idea of what we bit but at the end of it all it’s all about getting baby out safely and keeping mama safe as well! I’m sorry you had to go through some intense moments but boy am I thrilled to see this beautiful photo!! You did amazing mama
Absolutely agree with this! I did not plan on having my delivery with twins early because of HELLP syndrome. It’s hard because a lot of older people will say how magical and easy their births were and when yours has complications, it’s hard to accept and wonder why was mine so hard? But I think it’s okay to acknowledge that and I see you!! Thank you for saying this ![]()
Amen! I am so incredibly sorry you had to go through such a scary and exhausting ordeal at the end, but what a beautiful reminder that love truly conquers it all. You are such a strong mama, and she is so blessed to have you. God definitely had a plan for her perfect arrival! Now both y’all thriving wonderfully, congratulations happy almost 4 months! ![]()
That sounds like such an intense journey—you went through so much in such a short time. 78 hours of labor after everything you faced is no small thing.
I really relate to what you said about plans. I also thought I had things figured out before my baby arrived, especially when it came to feeding. But reality hit hard, and nothing went the way I expected. It taught me that sometimes letting go of the “perfect plan” is what actually helps us get through it.
And you’re so right—nothing prepares you for that moment when they place your baby on your chest. No matter how hard the journey is, that feeling just changes everything.
Thank you for sharing your story. It’s a powerful reminder that even when things don’t go as planned, something beautiful can still come out of it.
I agree. It was nice to make a plan but it never seems to work. It’s more of a guide.
We can plan all day long and it always works out the way God intended it to and it is always so much better than anything we could ever imagine or planned!
when they hand you that baby for the first time nothing beats it!
You’re absolutely right! Thanks, Jessica!
HELLP is no joke! I’m sorry that was your experience
. I wholeheartedly agree it is helpful to acknowledge those feelings
Thank you so much for your sweet words Angel! How very true- love conquers all![]()
Same here with the feeding! I wanted to breastfeed but now I am exclusively pumping and doing bottles and that’s okay! Fed baby is best, right!![]()
I have tried to put into words what holding her for the first time feels like and I just can’t find the right words and I tear up everything time I think about it- easily the best moment of my life ![]()

Definitely! Nice to have a guide in the general direction than a step by step plan![]()
Could not have said it better myself!![]()
With my 3rd baby I ended up with an induction due to fetal growth restriction. Never did I imagine that to be on my birth plan.
I created birth plans for both my babies but knew from the start I’d have to be flexible if something didn’t go as planned.
Safety comes first so I definitely agree with “forget the plan” when circumstances change!
Once you have kids plans go out the window, we run on their time lol
Plan definitely went out the window! But it did help me feel better informed at each step!
Isn’t it crazy how things can go so out of plan but still feel so absolutely perfect at the same time?
It’ll definitely throw ya for a loop![]()
Oh, yes ma’am! Safety first for sure!![]()
