How I wish I had known about mastitis!

I had no idea mastitis was so common, nor did I know anything about how to take care of me when it was starting. I had a special situation that was being made worse by a cyst I never knew I had in my breast. My newborn was still struggling to latch properly, which was part of the issue, and an abscess was already forming.

Things I wish I had BEFORE this started that would have helped ease pain earlier - nipple shields and Hydrogel nursing pads. Neither are expensive and they are good to have on hand. Momcozy makes both!

Once I had the abscess drained, the Momcozy M5 pumps were also a lifesaver while I was healing. It was that or a nipple shield since baby wouldn’t latch with a huge bandage on my breast (and in her face).

I would recommend buying Hydrogel nursing pads and one or 2 sets of nipple shields for every soon-to-be birthing parent! Even if you never NEED them, they may come in handy - and those hydrogel pads feel great regardless. I throw them in the fridge for when I wake up in the middle of the night SUPER hot…and then always have them on hand in case of a mastitis flare up.

Thank you for sharing this. I always appreciate tips, especially when it comes to mastitis because it is not fun and I had it for a couple of hours and luckily it went away. :grinning_face_with_smiling_eyes:
