I wish I knew…

Something I wish that I knew as a first time mom is that getting 4 oz total in a pumping session is ok and it is normal. Social media makes it seem like that isn’t enough. 6 years ago, my daughter was in the NICU for a few days when she was born because she had trouble with her breathing and they pushed formula the entire time we were in there and I wish I would have known more about breastfeeding as a first time mom. I wish I didnt feel pushed to supplement and was actually encouraged about breastfeeding, my journey would have been so different. With my second I was still learning but saw moms who had an oversupply posting how much milk they were getting per session and I thought that was normal and I wasn’t making enough so I would supplement when I felt I needed to. With my breastfeeding journey with my son I found a Momcozy s9 pro breast pump and it was a game changer for me I was able to pump on the go and it made such a difference! With this baby I have learned so much from my past breastfeeding journeys and from this group and have been able to breastfeed/pump for 5 months so far and reach my goal of making enough Milk to feed her and so far she has never had any formula!

It’s crazy how quickly they are to push formula! Like it’s the best thing for them. I’m not saying formula is horrible or anything, but you’re right, they should be pushing breastfeeding unless it’s impossible. I believe a lot of women are misinformed, and end up quitting too soon. And 4 ounces is totally normal. I was surprised to learn that too! The normalization of oversupply can actually be kind of dangerous because of increased risk of milk duct clogs and mastitis

This is such an important reminder, especially for first-time moms.

I went through something similar with the pressure of thinking there’s a “normal” amount we’re supposed to produce. Social media really doesn’t help—it can make you feel like you’re falling short when you’re actually doing exactly what your baby needs.

What you said about 4 oz being enough is so reassuring. I wish more moms heard that early on instead of comparing themselves to oversupply posts.

And I completely relate to how much the right pump can change everything. Finding something that works for your lifestyle makes such a difference, both physically and mentally.

It’s amazing how much you’ve learned through each journey and how you’ve been able to reach your goals this time. Your story will definitely help another mom feel less alone and more confident in her own journey.

That’s the key though right there is “learning together everyday” that’s what it’s about I don’t think there is a right way or a wrong way it’s just learning your body and your babies needs!! And I’m so sorry they pressured you I wish you had knew sooner I wish I did too I came into it totally blind but look how far we’ve come and you did an amazing job!

Everyone pushes formula! And it’s a marketing world for formula! Ughhhhhh! I mean I am so glad there are options out there when needed, but I think there needs to be better and equal marketing/education on breastfeeding!

Some things that surprised me is that babies don’t need more breastmilk like they do formula because the fat content changes or that breastfed babies NEVER need to go up a nipple level on the bottle. Every chart on social media is geared towards formula fed babies but none of them say it! Ugh ugh ugh!!

That’s an amazing feat! Congrats on your breastfeeding journey :purple_heart:

Every drop counts! I’m happy you found a pump that works for you. The wearables are really a game changer. When you have a bunch of people telling you what’s easiest (formula) it’s hard, sometimes you have to put your mama foot down and do what’s best even if it’s not easy. Fed is best, but I’ve heard so so many cases about formula tanking milk supply or making baby refuse to nurse.

Social media will steal your joy! I too felt this way my first journey and I’d be lying if I said I didn’t feel like that still some days. I wish I could have the output some other mamas have but also beyond grateful that I’ve been given the opportunity to feed my baby :smiling_face_with_three_hearts:

Social media will absolutely steal your joy! I feel the same way sometimes it’s so hard seeing mommas have an oversupply when you are just able to feed your baby and It makes you feel like you Arent doing enough especially when you have had a difficult breastfeeding journey in the past.

Oh my goodness this is so true social media. Guess this is such a false representation of what is real. I honestly think some people are even putting just fake milk in pumps and stuff because they get the followers same thing holds through whatever you’re teaching a kid how to eat, give her a phone up an entire plate more food than I can even eat.
