Today at 10 weeks postpartum I experienced how important true friendship/sisterhood and checking in does the heart good.
My best friend who just found out she is expecting reached out to my husband because she was having a hard time getting ahold of me. Despite dealing with the 1st trimester crude she wanted to make sure I was not struggling with postpartum depression. He reassured her that I was okay when he left this morning for work and told me to check in with her.
What made it hit differently is that we talk every single day, multiple times a day. The one day I forgot to return her call, she noticed. She cared enough to ask questions. She cared enough to check.
Although I’m fine, it honestly made me feel so seen even in my “silence.”
Motherhood, postpartum, pregnancy… all of it can feel heavy sometimes, even when things are “fine.” Having people who pay attention to the small changes, who notice when you go quiet, who care enough to reach out. That is the kind of love from a village that a mother needs.
This is your reminder to check on your friends. Especially the strong ones. Especially the ones who always seem okay. A simple “Are you good?” can mean everything.
