Sleeping shifts during the first month

One tip that was given to me that I feel helped my daughter sleep thru the night and begin to differentiate between day/night is doing sleep shifts during the first month. My husband would take a nap from 8p-midnight and I would stay awake and do the normal feed/contact nap schedule. Then I’d feed her one last time and then I’d go to bed and my husband would stay awake all night with her and do contact naps but he would wake me when it was time for her to eat. I’d get up, feed her and she’d fall asleep and I’d pass her back to my husband then I’d go to bed. Then my husband would wake me up around 5 or 6 and then I’d be up for the day then he’d go take a nap. It worked great for us and we felt like we both were able to get good chunks of sleep. She started sleeping thru the night at 2 months and I feel this routine helped with that! Also, using a red light at night so it’s still lit but not overly bright!

This is such a great tip. My husband had a go right back to work so I don’t think it would’ve worked for us, but for anybody who has a little bit of time off for both parents I can see this being a game changer

This is so so sooo important!!! We tried it! And it helped so much until my son decided he hated a bottle with a burning passion

That is such great teamwork! I’m so glad you were able to have this kind of support! The newborn days are rough, and it makes such a difference to have help. My husband would sleep in the guest room, so I’d call him if my baby needed her diaper changed or if I needed to use the restroom. The rest of the time, baby stayed in my arms in the recliner

That’s amazing he was so supportive and helpful during those newborn days!
