This community is so unique because we are all in different places of motherhood or pregnancy yet we are able to come together, learn, and help one another in ways that haven’t always been possible. For that I am so grateful.
The focus for me as a mom right now is understanding sacrifice. There arent always times for peace or time to do things for myself. But in that frustration I’ve learned a lot about sacrifice of time, talent, patience, etc. And there’s a stage where every mom is just sacrificing. Sacrificing her body, sacrificing her sense of self, or something she loves. But it can be just a stage. Right now I’m returning to work and missing a lot of the hobbies I used to love (including dance, art, sourdough). But I’ll find my way back to them one day.
Anyone else in the sacrifice stage and trying to find your new normal? Or fall in love with new hobbies again?
Before having my first baby in 2024 I worked ALOT. Like 80-90 hours a week while also commuting 1 ½ hours daily to my job. I had very little time to myself. I was there for 8 ½ years before recently leaving after having my April 26 baby.
So I am on the hunt for ALL new hobbies, and trying to find myself again while in such a delicate season of life!
hi Brittany, this touched my soul so deeply. i feel you in my BOOONEEES because i’ve been struggling with the same thing. i have a routine for my baby and everything is fine, but i don’t really have a routine for ME.
i’ve been trying to create one for myself, but honestly, it’s hard. you have to find patience, balance, and somehow not get frustrated when you’re trying to do something for yourself and your baby needs you at the same time. sometimes you just end up crying.
i LOVE being a mom, but at the same time, i would be lying if i said i do miss myself. there are so many little things i’m trying to change and bring back into my life, getting dressed, taking care of myself, finding new hobbies, and just doing things that make me feel comfortable and like me again.
but even those little things take so much energy and time when you have a baby. sometimes i wish i could just learn how to be more patient with myself and with my baby too, because i know none of this is his fault. he’s just being a baby and needing his mom.
i just wish i could feel like myself again. i feel like i lost a big part of me after becoming a mom, and finding her again is something i’m still working on.
so when i read what you shared, i really understood you. you’re definitely not alone
Honestly, I cant even remember what I used to do for fun! Before having kids, my job took up a majority of my life. I do like to tie dye, but just basic stuff. (Can’t do all the fancy schmancy stuff).
I do want to try and get back into reading though!
I think you allowing yourself to start to figure it out is such a plus. Acknowledging the sacrifices is so important. I love this community as well I’m so glad you’re here
Hi Brittany! I really love how you put this into words. The “sacrifice stage” is so real, and sometimes it feels like you’re giving little pieces of yourself away while trying to figure out who you are in this new season of life. After baby life has definitely gotten a lot busier, you reminded me of this really is just a stage! I am so happy to have you here! I might need to dabble in on the sourdough making
