This is me getting ready for a late afternoon lunch with my girlfriends.
Taking the time to do my hair which is usually in a messy bun because it’s so long and my toddler somehow always manages to step on it and most days you’ll find me in sweats and a nursing bra playing and wrestling my two boys and embracing all the snacks, books, dinosaurs and sticky hands that comes with motherhood.
But my monthly lunch date with my girls is such a beautiful time I get to myself to reset.
Today I get to get ready in peace without rushing and I get to look at myself in the mirror and quietly say “There she is."
I get to step outside knowing I won’t have slobber/spit up on my clothes, change a diaper every hour or preparing myself to nurse my little one when she wakes. Instead, I get to have lunch with my girls, have meaningful conversations, laugh with them and simply slow down a bit.
Moments like these remind me that motherhood is one of the most beautiful parts of who I am but it isn’t all that I am.
So to every mama who needs this reminder: you were someone before becoming a “Mom” and/or a “Wife.”
