Your Body Is Trying to Tell You Something. Listen. 🫶🏼

One support tip I would add for moms who are pregnant & postpartum is….. listen to your body. :heart_hands:t3:

This is something I wish I had taken more seriously after having my babies.

Postpartum is exhausting. You’re recovering from birth while feeding or pumping around the clock. You’re barely sleeping and your whole body is going through so many changes. It can be really easy to think every headache, ache or weird feeling is just part of being postpartum.

But sometimes it isn’t.

I learned that the hard way after having a postpartum hypertensive stroke. It completely changed how I look at my postpartum recovery.

I think as moms we get so used to pushing through. We tell ourselves we’re tired. We’re stressed. We just gave birth. We have newborns. It’s probably normal.

Please don’t ignore that feeling when your body is telling you something is wrong.

If you have a headache that feels unusual or severe, vision changes, sudden swelling, numbness, weakness, trouble speaking, chest pain, shortness of breath or anything that just doesn’t feel right, please get checked. Don’t automatically assume it’s just postpartum.

And if you have a blood pressure monitor at home, use it. Know your numbers. Talk to your doctor about what numbers or symptoms mean you should call.

Your baby needs you. But your baby also needs you to take care of YOU. :white_heart:

Getting checked doesn’t make you dramatic. Asking questions doesn’t make you difficult. And you never have to apologize for advocating for yourself.

I would rather hear “everything is okay” after getting checked than wish I had listened to my body sooner.

Mama, you know your body. Please listen to it.

I’m so sorry you are going through this. This is an important reminder to all mothers to listen to your body. Postpartum complications are more common than you think, and it’s not worth the risk. I hope you are doing alright. I pray that you have a full recovery and can get home to your girls soon :folded_hands:t2:

Not everything is just “normal postpartum” was one of my tips too!

We hear, even from some medical professionals, “oh that’s just postpartum symptoms”, but that’s not always true. And even if you check your blood pressure at home with a wrist cuff and you feel like it’s not “too high” still go get checked. Because it can get worse and home blood pressure measurement devices like wrist cuffs can give inaccurate readings related to positioning on arm, legs being crossed, talking, moving, not calibrated correctly, or not done with wrist at heart level. It’s best to see a doctor if you feel like something is off!

Hopefully you have been able to recover from this! Glad you were diligent and got checked out!
