What helped me breastfeed

When I first started breastfeeding, I was struggling with the stress of no sleep, being a new mom, and talk of my dad going to a nursing home (where he is currently). I wanted to be this unstoppable woman who could be supermom. I was determined to breastfeed and I thought I was doing a good job. Until I wasn’t making enough milk, and my son was losing weight. whathelpedme was giving myself grace, letting go. Understanding that it’s okay to reach out for help, and other resources to feed my son. I was able to obtain donor milk, while I mainly breastfed my son to comfort him when he wouldn’t take a bottle. It would relax him so much he would fall asleep while nursing. I’m so grateful I was able to experience breastfeeding in this lifetime, and that my son has so many people love him.

This is such a powerful reminder that there is no single definition of a ‘supermom.’ Learning to let go of expectations and accept help is so hard, but it sounds like you found a wonderful rhythm for you and your son. Thank you for sharing this beautiful perspective mama :beating_heart:

Watching moms in mainstream media gave me an unrealistic idea of what motherhood is. There is no one size fits all mom. We create the definition by doing our best and showing up. :flexed_biceps:t2:

This! So many social media moms only show you what they want you to see and it’s not even the reality and it puts so much stress on mommas who see it and feel like they aren’t measuring up. As long as your baby is healthy and happy that’s all that matters you’re doing a great job momma!

Such cute pictures of him! It’s so true that everyone’s breastfeeding journeys are so different. We think we know exactly how it gonna go, but there’s really no telling! What’s important is keeping that baby fed, even if that means pumping or supplementing with formula. You are a supermom for doing what needed to be done for your sweet baby!

We are all supermoms! It just might not look like how we thought it would!

You are a supermom but in your own way! Media only shows one side. Sometimes letting things go and asking for help is it’s own super power. It takes a village to raise a child.

Sometimes it’s hard to realize we need to slow down and give ourselves some grace. I’m sorry to hear your dad is in a nursing home now, but I hope all is well :heart_hands:t3:

Proud of you for reaching out for help when needed, it can be hard to do that sometimes. Your doing amazing!

You are a Supermom  How you fed your baby never changed that. You became a Supermom the day you had him, and every decision you made was out of love. Giving yourself grace was one of the greatest gifts you could give both yourself and your son :white_heart:
