Today I’m at the hospital getting an X-ray and sonogram. I’m 9 months postpartum, and I’m still dealing with pretty intense pain on the left side of my stomach, just below my belly button.
It’s not just random soreness. It’s the exact same spot every single time. Any pressure on it hurts: lifting my baby into the crib, getting kicked by little feet, even standing doing dishes. It feels like a constant pressure point that never really goes away.
At first I was told it was “normal” because I had major surgery. But after this long, it’s officially reached the not-so-normal stage. I’ve been doing pelvic floor therapy since December, and today is the first time I finally feel like a doctor truly heard me enough to order more testing. This is a level of support I truly needed right now.
I’m really hoping these scans give some answers or at least some direction. I never expected this journey to be this long.
Postpartum recovery can feel so lonely sometimes because so many of us are told to “just give it time.” So today I just wanted to ask… has anyone else dealt with lingering postpartum pain months later? If you have, I’d honestly love to hear your experience in the comments.
I’m so sorry to hear that you are going through that kind of pain still! I really hope they are able to figure out what’s going on. I’m 16 months postpartum, and I still get a lot of soreness around my entire incision. Maybe it’s the nerves or muscles being weak, but any time I hold my baby too long or do any form of exercise (even going on walks), I get really sore to the point where I have to take Tylenol to sleep. I’m guessing it’s the muscles being sore from getting stronger. I’m not in shape, but I don’t just sit around all day either. But I feel like I shouldn’t be having any pain from the C-section at this point. Does this happen to you too?
I hope they get some answers for you and you start to feel better! I’m glad that they finally listened to you and are doing something about it, we know our bodies best and can feel when something is off I don’t get why they don’t listen to us
I am right there with you! I’m glad you were finally heard and they are doing something about it !! I hope you get some good positive answers that will help you into your healing journey and get you to where you need to be faster!!! Being a mom and in pain is sooo incredibly difficult
I’m so sorry you’ve been dealing with this for so long. It’s so frustrating when you know something feels off and people keep telling you to just wait it out. I’m really glad someone finally listened, and I hope the scans give you some answers.
Yes! And honestly form talking to other moms, I think we are more so outliers. I have moms with basically no pain by now. I’m no dr but you may have extra scar tissue that pulls. Cupping and massaging might help (per my pt…but I have been going for months now and I’m not “fixed” )
Thank you so much! I hope we can make some postive progress soon. I have been going to pelvic floor therapy for so long , they don’t even have me check in anymore. Another session on the books today.
