Mom Health Postpartum

One thing I hope this Support List doesn’t leave out is that it’s so important to listen to your body – and specificlly that Gallbladder problems are SO COMMON PP. After birth, your body undergoes so many changes-- during pregnancy It does too! Those changes are beautiful but they can cause issues, the biggest one I wish I had known about being Gallbladder problems. Nobody, not even my OB or PCP told me that Gallstones form easily during pregnancy, nor what pains to watch for, and this lead to me ignoring signs that I should have paid more heed to. I only just yesterday had my gallbladder removed (and only after severe gallbladder attacks) when I could have had it taken care of weeks ago. So, when Postpartum, please watch for these things, particularly after a fat-heavy meal (embarrassingly what set me off was kraft Mac and cheese for lunch haha):

  • Severe pain in your chest, stomach, right back, and right side shoulder. (The right side is important)
  • Indigestion/reflux that doesn’t react to heartburn meds
  • Sudden onset of chills
  • Nausea
  • Diarrhea
  • Jaundice (not experienced personally but a common sign)

All of these together can be a sign that your gallbladder is unhappy and requires attention. Be willing to care for yourself mommas – it’s not selfish – it’s self care and care for your baby.

Best of luck mommas! You’re amazing! Remember to listen to your body! :heart_hands:t3:
